Interview with World Martial Arts Hall of Famer (Alireza Fadaie) By Jamie Hale
You were the first Iranian inducted into the World Marital Arts Hall of fame. At one time I think you were also the only Iranian in the WMHOF. What events led up to your induction? Are you still the only Iranian in the WMHOF?
AF: As far as I know I am still the first and only Iranian inducted to this hall of fame. I have been involved in martial arts as a practitioner, instructor, coach, referee, judge, writer, and co promoter...and all my activities in martial arts got recognized by board of directors and all the people who knew me through international martial arts community.
Tell me about the interview you did with Joe Lewis.
AF: I think I did that interview in 2002 as I remember. First of all I did not think Mr. Lewis even answer my email! He did and I was surprised how he had answered the questions so completely. That interview initially was published in top Middle Eastern martial arts magazine. I have shared that interview with some other websites and magazines. I have noticed that wikipedia has used my article as a reference for biography of Joe Lewis. Joe Lewis has been one of the people that I truly respect and admire. He is a living legend and I love to attend one of his seminars.
How did you become involved with translating Iranian Sports Mags? Are there many foreign contributors to those mags?
AF: In 1999 I translated an article for my weight-training trainer and actually liked the article. I called an office of one of the magazines and told them that I would share this article with them. Coincidently they were looking for a motivated translator and writer and that is how I started writing for magazines. I have written and translated over 160 article for magazines in Canada, US, England and Iran.
How long have you been practicing martial arts? Favorite martial art?
AF: I took my first karate lessons back in 1983 when I was 6. I have won medals in karate forms and continuous sparring and have competed successfully in North America and Europe. I still compete, teach, judge and write. My favorite martial arts are karate, kickboxing, MMA and Jiu-jitsu
Favorite exercise?
AF: I would say pad work and sparring!
Favorite fighter?
AF: UFC champions George St. Pierre and Anderson Silva
Any current projects you would like to share with readers?
AF: I am planning to open my own school one day and am training to keep competing and add medals, trophies and belts to my collection
Any additional comments?
AF: I want to thank you Jamie for all the support all these years and great things I have learned from you regarding fitness and nutrition and am looking forward to host a seminar for you here in Vancouver, Canada.
I appreciate that and I would like to thank you for your support and getting my work into international publications including Razm Avar and Goonagoon. Oh yeah and a big thanks for the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame nomination and selecting me as Exercise and Nutrition Advisor for World Organization of Martial Arts Athletes- Team Canada.
